Hi Jerome - just wondering how has being deaf effected your film making? Deafness really interests me, because I think if someone can't hear there's more possibility for their mind to develop more independantly - after all there are no words in there until somone puts them in there - and I think there's more possibility for a real natural and abstract - and truer - way of thinking and feeling [am I right - or right off track?] But anyway does this lead to a real strong relationship in your filmmaking with with the abstract/emtional elements of film or vision itself - I'm thinking colour/texture/grain/composition - all of that aside from story etc

I think if I was in that sitaution it would for me - although I don't know - but I imagine it would be a very feeling ful and meaningful thing - but different and more aabstract - though just as rich.

Also - I won't see your reply for a week or so (going on holidays) - but I'd love to read your thoughts and anyone elses for that matter

I studied hearing filmmakaing. They got more advantage because of major on this earth that I could not see the subtitle. As for me that I get to make subtitle that way they can get to understand the story however I use sound environment like slap or break the window such as foley sound that i am use that way i can pleasure hearing even more because I can see that they, hearing people will feel restless if no sound at all because we are in this today's modern than charlie chaplin's time. About shoot would be less for me because hearing can shoot people's back that audience can get to understand the sound going on as for deaf that i got to shoot the front than the back because of "can not see sign language for story telling" about abstract like texture, grain and real challlenge for us all as producer or director like i went to international supoer 8mm film festival i saw the dark of aptarment with window of light on and off and on then The end. people clapped like I was puzzled what hell is it? Sound may effect them well but vision real crap. How can film festival accept that submit of that DULL dark of apt with window light and on for only less 2 minutes? Other movie I saw real active and slow motion maybe 60fps and people do not impress as I real impressed. You may see the different between us like poor person eats mud as we, deaf people will laugh but hearing will feel sad. Plato said "life is play" guess we ought ourselves to play film. of course, I ask hearing to help me out with sound thing that I can cut or add even voice over too. I am not crazy over voice over like the crouching tiger and the dragon movie do not have english voice over only yellow subtitle that i like it philosophy than voice over. voice over and subtitle together may be looking too funny also hearing may enjoy deaf's mouth movenment that make noise or hands around somehow... also do not forget facial expression for send the message as well. I never too good at english write that i get a friend that can help me with write english in right grammar also reading proof for damn subtitle. Sorry for hog of long write. You have a good holidays one day we may get to make a deaf movie if you want to make then let's make one. Jerome Cain, deaf filmmaker

Before I forget to add about work film with hearing group real harder because they may have low budget that can not afford to hire an interpreter to tell me to move the dolly or fix the focus when it move or move the camera or the lights thing or and or!
even edit too. That is why I decided to stick with independence movie making and do media service for bread and butter. Jerome Cain
